Still no audio of Beyonce singing “Can You Feel The Love Tonight,” but at least we see her character Nala along with a few others including Scar, Timon, Pumbaa for the first time in the official trailer for The Lion King.
After doing such a stellar job of bringing The Jungle Book to life, Disney once again tapped Jon Favreau to remake an animated classic. This time around, it’s The Lion King. Could he do to the majestic African Savanna like he did the lush jungles of India? Stunning, breathtaking and cinematic doesn’t even begin to describe the visuals. This could be Disney’s best live action remake to date.
The Lion King journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother—and former heir to the throne—has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.
James Earl Jones returns to voice Mufasa once again. He’s joined by Donald Glover as Simba, Beyonce Knowles-Carter as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon, John Oliver as Zazu, and Keegan-Michael Key as Kamari. The Lion King roars into theaters on July 19, 2019. Check out the sweeping trailer below.
