It hasn’t been a very good week for the Fitzgerald name over at Amazon. After initially renewing Z: The Beginning of Everything for a Season 2 earlier this year, the streaming service reversed its decision. The Christina Ricci series about the life of American socialite and writer Zelda Sayre Fitzgerald is now canceled. Another Fitzgerald-related drama is also now kaput.
Amazon has pulled the plug on The Last Tycoon starring Matt Bomer. The hour-long series which took viewers back to the glory days of Hollywood is based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1941 novel of the same name. Bomer played golden boy Monroe Stahr. Kelsey Grammer, Lily Collins, Rosemarie DeWitt and Jennifer Beals also starred in the drama.
The Last Tycoon is just the latest series to only survive one season at Amazon. The streaming service has been quite stingy when it comes to greenlighting sophomore runs. The Last Tycoon and Z: The Beginning of Everything now join Mad Dogs and Good Girls Revolt as one-and-done series.
