‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ Officially Announced

Turns out the rumors were true. The original American Idol is heading to daytime.

NBC Universal announced The Kelly Clarkson Show will air on NBC-owned stations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas-Fort Worth, San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Miami, San Diego, Hartford and Boston. It will serve as a lead-in to The Ellen DeGeneres Show. The aforementioned stations make up almost 30 percent of U.S. households. It’s set to premiere fall 2019.

“We are very excited to have Kelly Clarkson on our air next fall,” added president of NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations Valari Staab. “She’s genuine, warm, fun and interacts with her fans in a meaningful way. Throughout her career people of all ages and backgrounds have related to her openness, honesty and curiosity. She will be the perfect companion to ‘Ellen,’ providing an afternoon of great television.”

The one-hour program is described as “a fun, energetic show that breaks with tradition. In each episode audiences will experience an hour full of remarkable stories, celebrity guests, spontaneous surprises, humor, heart and, of course, good music! It’s like a weekday brunch party with a fascinating guest list of people who would otherwise never meet.”

“I love connecting with people, playing games, music and finding ways to help or give back to communities/organizations,” Clarkson said in a statement. “Having my own talk show where I get to do all of these things is pretty much a dream job!”

In the short term, Clarkson’s show will replace Steve Harvey’s show in the aforementioned markets. In the long term, however, it could replace the long-running soap opera The Days Of Our Lives. The on-the-bubble soap has for years narrowly escaped cancellation. If The Kelly Clarkson Show is successful, could this spell the doom for DOOL?

President of Alternative & Reality Group, NBC Entertainment Paul Telegdy added, “The incomparable Kelly Clarkson takes everything she touches to another level and we couldn’t be happier to bring her talent, humor, generosity and compassion to daytime next year. With Kelly’s cross-generational appeal and extraordinary ability to understand and connect with viewers, ‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ will have something for everyone.”
