Standouts From ‘The Greatest Showman: Reimagined’

Like P.T. Barnum, the musical about his life defied the odds. The Greatest Showman overcame middling reviews and won audiences over, instantly becoming a classic. The accompanying soundtrack soared to even greater heights. The album reached number one on iTunes in over 77 countries, going double platinum in the US and quadruple platinum in the UK. It’s no wonder this re-imagining was greenlit.

The Greatest Showman: Reimagined features an all-star roster covering the show-stomping tunes from the hit musical. We’ve already heard Pink, Panic! At The Disco and Kelly Clarkson’s renditions. Now that the full album is available to stream, we can see how the rest of the other covers stack up to the original cast recordings.

Without a doubt, Kelly Clarkson’s “Never Enough” cover is still my favorite on the re-issue. God, I love that woman. I was chatting with a friend the other day and we both agreed Clarkson needs to do a Broadway musical. We joked it could be an all-white production of Dreamgirls with Clarkson taking over for Jennifer Hudson. We also cast Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande and Carly Rae Jepsen in our fantasy musical. LOL

Pink’s “A Million Dreams” comes a close second to Kelly’s contribution. Surprisingly, I’d put James Arthur & Anne-Marie’s cover of “Rewrite The Stars” in third. Rounding out the Top 5 would be Pentatonix and Years & Years/Jess Glynne’s stab at “The Greatest Show” and “Come Alive” respectively. I especially like the slinky disco arrangement on the latter.

Give the new renditions a whirl below and weigh in afterward on your favorites and least favorite.

I really loved (and was totally surprised by) Sara Bareilles’ version of Tightrope. That was a track I normally skipped over when listening to the original soundtrack. I love Michelle Williams but thought her voice was the weakest in the cast. And the song was just OK for me. But Sara made it a gorgeous, haunting love song. Love it!
