She ain’t Her Majesty The Queen no more. Claire Foy trades in her royal regalia for a bad-ass new look. Sony Pictures shares the first look at the latest installment of Stieg Larsson’s best-selling Millennium series.
The 34-year-old actress takes over for Rooney Mara as the outcast vigilante, Lisbeth Salander. Daniel Craig is also a no-show and will be replaced by Sverrir Gudnason. The Swedish actor will play the crusading journalist who teams up with Lisbeth. Together they encounter a web of spies, cybercriminals and government corruption.
Joining Foy and Gudnason in the sequel are Sylvia Hoeks as Salander’s twin sister, and Claes Bang as the villain. Fede Alvarez is taking over directing duties from David Fincher who helmed the first film.
Instead of adapting The Girl Who Played with Fire or The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest, the second and third book of Larsson’s original trilogy, the fourth book, The Girl in the Spider’s Web, is getting the big screen treatment. After Larsson died of a heart attack, David Lagercrantz wrote the novel to continue the franchise.
The Girl in the Spider’s Web is set to arrive in theaters on October 19, 2018. Check out the trailer below.
