Netflix Shuts Down ‘The Get Down’ After One Season

It’s uncommon for Netflix to shut down production on an original series so early in its run. Unfortunately for The Get Down, it earns that rare distinction. The streaming service has canceled Baz Luhrmann’s ambitious musical drama. The decision comes just a month after the second part of Season 1 arrived.

While Netflix doesn’t officially release viewership numbers, Variety reports the first part of Season 1 drew 3.2 million total U.S. adults 18-49 in its first 31 days. That’s roughly one fifth of the audience Orange Is The New Black generated for its season four during its first 31 days. When you factor in the reported $120 million price tag, the most costly in Netflix’s history, it’s no wonder why the service dropped the axe.

Did you sample The Get Down? I did and while I enjoyed some aspects, I can’t say that I will miss it. The one thing I’m thankful for is the drama gave us the sensational disco track that is “Telepathy” from Christina Aguilera. I’m still obsessed with it after all these months. Check out the scene from the show, the Motoblanco dance mix and X-Tina’s music video below.

I am glad it was cancelled. I was shocked how they used gay slurs for no reason. There are tons of different words they could have used but they used gay slurs for no reason.
