Eddie Redmayne Is Mesmerizing In The First Trailer For ‘The Danish Girl’

Tom Hanks was the last man to win back-to-back Best Actor Oscars. Eddie Redmayne, who snagged the award last year for The Theory of Everything, could very well win consecutive statues as well. The 33-year-old actor is mesmerizing in the first trailer for The Danish Girl. At the very least, he’ll score a nomination.

Based on David Ebershoff’s historical novel of the same name, the film tells the story of Lili Elbe who is believed to be the first person to undergo gender confirmation surgery. Born male as Einar Wegener in 1882, Lili transitioned to female in the 1920s with the support of her wife, Gerda played by Alicia Vikander. Oscar buzz is also deafening for her performance as well.

The Danish Girl opens in New York and Los Angeles on November 27, and will expand to additional cities in December. Matthias Schoenaerts, Ben Whisaw and Amber Heard round out the cast. Les Miserables‘ Tom Hooper directed the film. Check out the powerful trailer below.
