We’re still two months away from checking out Greg Berlanti’s subversive take on the beloved Archie Comics. The upcoming drama will explore the surrealism of small-town life — the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome façade. I can’t wait.
The CW just released a new promo for their midseason series. It’s definitely grittier and darker than any previous adaption of the iconic comic. The first season follows Archie and the gang “entering sophomore year of high school while dealing with a murder-mystery,” according to the publication.
New Zealand actor KJ Apa and Camila Mendes will play Archie and Veronica respectively. Rounding out the cast are Surviving Jack‘s Lili Reinhart as Betty; Cole Sprouse (The Suite Life of Zack and Cody) as Jughead; Luke Perry (Beverly Hills, 90210) as Archie’s dad, Fred Andrews; Marisol Nichols (Teen Wolf) as Veronica’s mom, Hermione Lodge; Madchen Amik (The Witches of East End) as Betty’s mom Alice Cooper and as Corey Cott as Riverdale’s resident gay, Kevin Keller. Looking‘s Raúl Castillo also appears in the series as a successful songwriter from New York.
Riverdale debuts Thursday, Jan. 26 on The CW. Check out the teaser below.
