Riverdale is an upcoming one-hour drama based on the beloved Archie Comics, set in present day. It’s a subversive take on Archie and his crew, exploring the surrealism of small-town life — the darkness and weirdness bubbling beneath Riverdale’s wholesome façade. Greg Berlanti, the man behind Supergirl and Blindspot will produce the series for The CW.
No word if Berlanti will incorporate the recent revelation about Jughead’s asexuality. Knowing Berlanti, he probably will.
Speaking of Berlanti, he’s becoming the Shonda Rhimes of The CW. He has Arrow, The Flash and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow all currently airing. With only so few timeslots on the network, the 43-year-old producer is certainly a dominant force.
The first actors have been cast for the pilot. Lili Reinhart (Surviving Jack) will play loveable Betty Cooper while Cole Sprouse (The Suite Life Of Zack & Cody) will tackle the role of Jughead Jones. This marks the latter’s return to acting after taking a break to attend university. Check out what Sprouse looks like these days.
Thanks for being patient while I stepped away. I'm pleased to announce my return to acting. Catch me on Riverdale as pic.twitter.com/AQqWIqNtdi
