If you’re an avid Nielsen Ratings follower, The CW’s decision to renew these three shows shouldn’t be shocking. The only thing remotely surprising is that the network did it this early. The upfronts where networks reveal their 2013-14 schedules are still a few months away. That said, the news is always nice to hear especially to fans and the cast and crew of each show. Another year of regular pay cheques is always a good thing.
There’s no denying Arrow is the season’s breakout hit on The CW if not on all the broadcast networks. It arrived with a bang with 4.3 million viewers and consistently brings in viewers weekly. It’s the network’s most-watched show. Meanwhile, The Vampire Diaries is tops when it comes to the target demographic of adults and women between the ages of 18-34. The supernatural series will return for a fifth season.
Speaking of supernatural, the veteran show Supernatural will come back for an impressive ninth season. Even more impressive is the fact the Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki program increased 15% among total viewers, 10% in adults 18-34 and 18% in adults 18-49. That’s almost unheard of for such an old show. It’s amazing what a great lead-in will do to improve ratings. Arrow and Supernatural are teamed up on Wednesday nights. It’s a much better pairing than previous years when America’s Next Top Model and numerous failed shows occupied the night.
