After having a weak presence in the upper echelon of the Billboard Hot 100 for the past few years, women are making a comeback on the prestigious chart. Mostly in part to Taylor Swift. The 27-year-old singer has not one, but two tracks in the Top 5.
“Look What You Made Me Do” spends a second week at pole position. Also from her upcoming album, Reputation, “Ready For It?” debuts in the No. 4 spot. Swift is the first woman with two concurrent top five Hot 100 hits since… herself back in February 2015, when “Blank Space” and “Shake It Off” ranked at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively.
With Cardi B rising from 3-2 with her breakout hit “Bodak Yellow (Money Moves),” it marks the first time in nearly three years that solo women (in lead roles) rank at Nos. 1 and 2 simultaneously on the Hot 100. Once again, Taylor was involved the last time it happened. She held No. 1 with “Blank Space” while Meghan Trainor’s “All About That Bass” was runner-up back in December 2014.
Check out this week’s Top 10 below which finds “Despacito” slipping further to No. 3.
