Taron Egerton Describes Kiss With Richard Madden In ‘Rocketman’ As ‘Electric’ & ‘Exciting’

Can May 31 arrive already? I really need to see Rocketman. After reading Taron Egerton’s interview with Attitude magazine, my excitement for the Elton John biopic just increased tenfold.

The 29-year-old Welsh actor sits down with the British glossy to chat about being a straight man playing a gay icon, his love scenes with Richard Madden and more. Learn a few juicy tidbits below, and check out Taron’s alternate Attitude cover as well.

“I would not have played this character if: one, I wasn’t allowed to show Elton being a nightmare, because he has been; two, if we weren’t able to explore his drink-and-drug addiction because I don’t think you can tell a story without it; and three, if I didn’t think we could make a film that the gay community would watch and feel a sense of ownership over.”

“What right do I have to play Elton John if I am not going to go the same lengths to portray a gay relationship as a gay actor would?” He continues, “It’s easy for me to sit here as a white heterosexual man and say I should be able to play a part I want, but I completely understand why a gay actor would feel that this an opportunity for which they would be better suited.”

With regards to his racy sex scene with Madden, he admits the movie went “as far as it could go.” He admitted to feeling pressure filming the scene where Elton loses his virginity. He explains, “We shot a scene where we are both naked on a bed and we are rolling around.” He also revealed, “I felt Richard’s penis… on my leg.” HOT VISUAL!!!

Please oh please, let this not end up on the cutting room floor.

Describing his kiss with Richard, Taron states “the rawness of that experience, the fear of that experience… But also the joy of the experience of Elton’s first kiss… it’s electric, it’s exciting, your stomach is doing somersaults.” He adds, “I treat it with the same love, care and affection I would as if it was my first experience of falling for somebody.”
