Zachary Quinto Teams Up With J.J. Abrams For Movie About Anthony Perkins & Tab Hunter’s Love Affair

Confession time. Prior to watching Tab Hunter Confidential on Netflix, I didn’t know much about the matinee idol. How bad of a gay am I? The documentary explored his struggle to deal with his sexuality during his hey day in 1950s Hollywood. One of the juicier bits Hunter shared was his secret affair with Anthony Perkins. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that forbidden love has inspired an upcoming movie from Zachary Quinto and J.J. Abrams.

“Titled Tab & Tony, the Paramount drama is based on Hunter’s first-person account of his struggle to come to terms with his sexual orientation in 1950s Hollywood, an era in which being openly gay was taboo,” the publication reports.

Quinto and Abrams will co-produce Tab & Tony with Allan Glaser, who is Tab‘s longtime partner. No director or actors have been announced but Pulitzer Prize winner Doug Wright is writing the screenplay. His previous credits include the Broadway plays I Am My Own Wife and Quills.

Perkins, best known for his iconic portrayal of Norman Bates in Psycho, passed away in 1992 of AIDS-related pneumonia. Hunter will turn 87-years-old next month.
