‘Sunset Boulevard’ Film Adaptation Starring Glenn Close Finds Director

Will the eighth time be the charm? Glenn Close is certainly hoping so after her surprising loss to Olivia Colman for Best Actress at the 91st Academy Awards.

The seven-time Oscar nominee has been loosely attached to Sunset Boulevard ever since it was first announced. At long last, it looks like the long-gestating project is finally picking up steam. The movie musical has found its director in the form of Tony-winning choreographer Rob Ashford. It will mark his directorial debut but he’s earned rave reviews for his stage direction and choreography for the live television presentation of The Sound of Music and Peter Pan Live!

Playing the faded and deluded silent-screen star Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard is something the 71-year-old actress is very familiar with. She’s played the part to great acclaim in several productions, even winning a Tony back in 1994.

Chances for an eighth Oscar nomination, and eventual win, look good when the film eventually arrives in theaters. Others seem to think so as well. Check out a tweet from Pushing Daisies director Bryan Fuller below.
