Hot! Hot! Hot! New promo pics for an upcoming big budget film called Sucker Punch were just released and they are fierce! The film follows a young girl in the 1950s about to be lobotomized and as she attempts to escape the asylum with her inmate friends. The sexy female cast includes Emily Browning as Baby Doll (pictured above), and in the picture below from left to right, Vanessa Hudgens (Blondie), Abbie Cornish (Sweet Pea), Jamie Chung (Amber), Jena Malone (Rocket), and Carla Gugini (Madam Gorski). It’s written by Steve Shibuya and Zack Snyder (Director of 300), who also directed the film. Having done the all male cast in 300, Snyder was ready to go on the opposite of the spectrum and do the all female cast. Snyder describes the film as “Alice in Wonderland with machine guns”, including dragons, B-52 bombers and brothels.

Synopsis:

“Set in the 1950s, it tells the story of Baby Doll (Browning), who is trying to hide from the pain caused by her evil stepfather and lobotomy. She ends up in mental institution and while there she starts to imagine alternative reality. She plans to escape from that imaginary world but to do that she needs to steal five objects before she is caught by a vile man. She has 5 days to escape before being lobotomized. In order to cope with the situation, she enters the hyper-real world of her imagination, and the lines between reality and dream begin to blur. She is joined with friends who are inmates from the institution. Lessons learned in the said fantasy world could help the girls escape their real-world fate.”

This is gonna be so good.

The film was filmed mostly in Vancouver, and some in Toronto. It was actually supposed to come out before Watchmen but got pushed back and Snyder gathered most of the Vancouver-based crew who worked on Watchmen to work on this film. The same choreographers that are working on the CW’s Hellcats did the choreographer for this movie: Paul Becker and Jeff Dimitriou. Fun fact: They both make a cameo in the movie. It is scheduled to be released in both conventional & IMAX 3D theatres on March 25, 2011.

Check out the newly released promo pics below, along with some random tidbits along the way:

Emily Browning as Baby Doll. Originally, the director wanted Amanda Seyfried for the role, but she had to turn it down due to scheduling conflicts.

The girls had to go through a lot of training for the fight scenes prior to filming, but they had to start with Hudgens because she was still filming Beastly at the time.

Abbie Cornish who plays Sweet Pea was named Australia’s sexiest vegetarian in 2008. Huh.

Jamie Chung got her big break on The Real World San Diego. After than she went on to do a number of things, most recently landing a gig on Sorority Row – but this will be her biggest role.

Jena Malone’s biggest role for me was when she played Susan Surandon‘s daughter in Stepmom.

Carla Gugino was a straight-A student in school and graduated valedictorian.
