Back in 1995, TLC warned their fans not to chase waterfalls and to stick to the lakes and rivers they’re used to. Fast forward to 2012 and it’s another trio heeding the same advice. This time around, they warn about are neon-colored waterfalls 😉 British group Stooshe just dropped the music video of their cover of TLC’s iconic hit, “Waterfalls” and it’s not the trainwreck I feared it might be.
When I heard Alexandra Buggs, Karis Anderson and Courtney Rumbold were covering the 90s track, I immediately thought sacrilegious. “Waterfalls” is one of those songs that should never be touch. Thankfully for them, their cover and video isn’t completely heinous and actually a great homage to T-Boz, Chilli and Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes (Rest in peace). In fact, the remaining living members of TLC give it their seal of approval by making a cameo in the clip.
Stooshe’s cover is off their self-titled debut album. Both “Love Me” featuring Travie McCoy and “Black Heart” cracked the Top 10 in the UK and I full expect “Waterfalls” to do the same. The latter might even assist in them breaking the North American market. Just in case you were wondering, “Stooshe” is term the girls found on UrbanDictionary.com. It’s used to describe something that is ‘expensive’, but also describes a girl who thinks she’s nicer than she is. It can also mean being stoned or stashed away. The girls liked the various meanings and chose it as their group name. Check out TLC and Stooshe’s “Waterfalls” music video below.
