It’s official! Steve Nash has just announced that they have merged with Fitness World, and the two are now one. After months and months of rumors, it’s now confirmed.
Last year, Steve Nash opened up in Vancouver as one of the more “prestigious” exclusive gyms, located in the business district of downtown Vancouver, as well as in Richmond and South Surrey. There’s no official information or details on what this means for Fitness World members, but for Steve Nash, it does say that they will have the opportunity to access more clubs now, as stated on the Steve Nash Sports club site:
“What does that mean for you? Opportunities to access more Facilities, more Locations, more Equipment, more Classes, expanded Personal Training Services and Innovative Events. For questions and information on how to increase your membership benefits, contact a member of the Sales Team at your Club or visit the Fitness World website for information on their locations: www.fitnessworld.com”

I’m guessing members will have to pay an extra premium to access the other gyms now? I mean, I’ve had a Fitness World membership for about 9 years now, does that mean I all of a sudden have access to Steve Nash’s gym free of charge now? No, that isn’t the case…
I called Fitness World to find out how it affects my membership, if at all, and they said that everyone was in meetings at the moment discussing it today, but tomorrow there would be more information. The women I spoke to said that existing Steve Nash members will be able to go to Fitness World locations at no additional costs, but if Fitness World members want to go to Steve Nash locations, they’ll have to upgrade their membership, since the Steve Nash locations are considered their “executive gyms”. She also mentioned that there will likely be a promotion, which they’ll have more information on soon, that will go til the end of January (or something) that will allow Fitness World members to upgrade to have Steve Nash at a lower rate, if they do it within the specified promotion period.
It’s probably a smart move though for both parties. Better to work together than against each other right? The gym will now be know as: Steve Nash Fitness World. I wonder if they are going to change the signs at all locations, or just the Steve Nash ones?
I’m hoping I get to work on my 2010 fitness routines in some new locations!

From what I’ve heard, grandfathered memberships at FW won’t be honoured, and that you’ll have to pay the $70/month that SNSC members currently pay…

Since it’s a merger, I’m pretty sure this means they have come together, not necessarily that one has bought the other out.

I got a letter from them today all about it. It mentions an upgrade, but it says nothing about extra cost. I can take the card they sent me and get a phase one upgrade before the end of January.

Any chance they are goin to renovate the ugly and dated FW locations? Not likely, huh? :-)

Yeah, Fitness World sent me that same vague letter. I called them, but they wouldn’t give me a quote about the cost of the upgrade over the phone. Doesn’t sound like its going to be all that reasonable.

Steve Nash FW in Delta is garbage!! They have the worst customer service i have ever experinced! Brittany Hill (The weekend manager) promised me all these add ons if i signed up and didnt follow threw with any of them, then when i desided to cancel my membership i had a HUGE RUN AROUND with trying to cancel, it took me over a week.
Do not go there, they will suck your money for nothing in return
(the gym is not even very nice either, their machines are very basic)

The membership upgrade is one issue but the other is the dirty gyms!! why are the Fitness World gyms so dirty??? Since Nash took over Fitness World they have gone downhill. I have been a member for way too many years and I have noticed in the last 6 mos the gyms I accessed have gotten dirtier/ better word filthy. Have you not heard of hygiene, brooms, mops or even a vacuum??? I was going to have a shower at one of your facilities and it was so filthy, hair, soggy paper towels, empty bottles everywhere that I left and went to a community ctre to shower instead. Meanwhile staff are all standing around posing and talking to each other. What has happened to Fitness World since Nash took over… promoting laziness… I checked into another competitive gym ( hockey player) the price was 14.95 and the service was unbelievable!!!
