Jay-Z discovered and groomed Rihanna. Now it’s Mary J. Blige’s turn to discover the next big pop star. Meet Starshell, the first female artist signed to Blige’s Matriarch Records. This week the 21-year-old singer-songwriter unveiled the music video for her debut single, “SuperLuva“. Lady Gaga’s good friend Fernando Garibay produced the single. With Blige backing her, Starshell has some other big time producers working with her for her 2011 debut. Swizz Beatz, will.i.am, Ne-Yo, Jerry Wonda are just a few who are collaborating with the singer.

For her coming our party, Starshell worked with Pedro to direct her music video. If you’re a child of the 80s and/or love films from that era, you’ll notice Starshell channeling her inner Kelly LeBrock from “Weird Science”. The singer claims she’s inspired by 80s pop and its very evident in the sci-fi-inspired flick. She’s rocks out some serious 80s attire while working out her dance moves to the infectious tune. It has a pop/dance/reggae sensibility that makes the track appealing. Miss Blige even shows up for a cameo during the clip.
