Star Wars: Episode VIII Production Announcement & Cast Revealed

Star Wars: The Force Awakens ended with Rey (Daisy Ridley) finding Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) on a secluded island. It appears that’s exactly where Episode VIII will begin.

At least, based on the production video announcement uploaded on the movie’s YouTube account. Director Rian Johnson, who’s taking over for J.J. Abrams, is shown yelling ‘Cut!’ and welcoming everyone to Episode VIII in the clip.

In addition to officially announcing the beginning of production, the cast list has been revealed for the next installment. Find out all the returning cast members and newbies below.


In addition to Ridley and Hamill, returning cast members are Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Carrie Fisher, Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong’o, and Domhnall Gleeson. Long-rumored newbie Benicio Del Toro joins the franchise, along with Laura Dern and newcomer Kelly Marie Tran.

Star Wars: Episode VIII doesn’t invade theaters until December 15, 2017, but at least the spinoff movie, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, being released on December 16, 2016 will tide over fans until then.
