Sofi Tukker is a New York-based musical duo consisting of Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern. You may not know their name, but you’ve certainly heard their music. The band’s “Drinkee” and “Awoo” have been used in Apple Watch and Old Navy commercials respectively. Their latest, though great, probably won’t be licensed in the same way due to its expletive title.
“Fuck They” is a defiant, empowering anthem with plenty of sass and a kiss-off attitude. They co-wrote it with the help of Scissor Sisters‘ Jake Shears and Evermore’s Jon Hume. The duo explained the idea behind their sassy new single to W magazine.
“It’s different than anything else we have written before because of Jake’s influence. It was tongue-in-cheek and kind of goofy in a way that was new to us,” Sofi Tukker told W Magazine. “The whole premise is ‘f— they’—the people that are trying to hold us back from being who we are, being ourselves really loudly. The profanity’s even part of it. It’s a thesis statement for the next group of songs we’ve been working on, they definitely have a cheekier edge. They’re sassier.”
Give “Fuck They” a listen below. Be sure to check out their videos for “Awoo” and “Drinkee” as well, if you haven’t done so already. I’m obsessed with “Awoo” myself.
