Last night, I randomly went to the Blazed & Confused Concert here in town, with Slightly Stoopid as the opening act followed by the Dogfather of Rap, Snoop Dogg. I wasn’t that familiar with Slightly Stoopid, but Snoop’s tracks definitely bring me back to my highschool years – “Laid Back….” We picked up our VIP tickets, courtesy of Nic who had met Slightly Stupid the night before and put us on the guest list. Unfortunately, Nic wasn’t able to make it due to work, and our other friend Josh couldn’t make it because he had a BBQ he had to be at. WTF?

So Faye and I pick up our VIP tickets that are waiting for us, and we proceed to meander through Pacific Coliseum to our spot, which took us awhile to find. Down the stairs, through several rounds of security personnel, we made our way right by the stage – right where the artists come in and out. Clouds of smoke everywhere – and not from the smoke machines. WINK.

Slightly Stoopid was awesome. They’re a Reggae band, kinda like Sublime, so it was a really good, chill atmosphere in the crowd – not like the last few concerts I’d been too. Faye’s been a huge fan of this band since highschool and lucky for her they actually had a pretty long set. I plan on checking out their new album for sure! They have a new video out for one of their singles called 2am – if you haven’t seen the video for it, you should check it out on YouTube – pretty cool! Their last album was called “Slightly Not Stoned Enough To Eat Breakfast Yet Stoopid.”

Without further adieu, it was time to introduce Snoop Dogg himself. The crowd roared. With a live band, he played all of his old hits, including Gin & Juice, Gangsta Party, What’s My Name and newer(ish) ones like Drop It Like It’s Hot, Sexual Seduction, and more.

Of course, being in town at the same time, it only made sense that Akon made a surprise appearance! Sweet! You know his hits including: Beautiful, Right Now (Na Na Na), Smack That, and I Wanna Love You.
So Snoop performed I Wanna Love You, which he’s in anyway, then he introduces Akon and he performs it again obviously doing his part. It was a great surprise! I Saw Akon a few years back when he toured with Gwen Stefani on the Sweet Escape album. He’s had 23 Billboard Hot 100 songs and believe it or not he is the first solo artist to hold both the number one and two spots simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 charts twice. His most recent album that he is touring is called Freedom.

As the concert comes to a close, Faye and I watch the crowds of people clear out as we hang out in the VIP holding area, not sure what we’re in store for. After about ten minutes, we get escorted with others to another waiting area, where we see the well known oddball interviewer, Nardwuar.

While waiting, Akon is heading out and I stop him for a quick hello and picture. He’s performing tomorrow here in town at GM Place. Akon, whose real name is Aliaune Thiam, was super nice enough to stop for me on his way out. I’m sure his concert tonight will be awesome!

Finally, comes time for us to enter the back room. I was NOT expecting what happened next. Cue the music: “Ain’t Nothin’ but a Gangsta Party…” The room was so MUCH smaller & intimate than I thought it would be, and it was only Snoop and all of his entourage up in a cloud of smoke! It was a true “backstage” type atmosphere. It was mostly all of his crew, with the few of us that were in there, so we went right up to Snoop, as we called him, and got our picture with him, shook his hand etc. He’s SO skinny. But seriously. For Shizzle my Nizzles: they were cutting up weed, kicking back & relaxing after their concert, and we were in the middle of it! Amazeballs! You saw my picture with him at the top, here’s Faye with Snoop Doggy Dogg!

What a night!
