Based on Shusaku Endo’s 1966 acclaimed novel of the same name, Silence tells the story of two Christian missionaries who face the ultimate test of faith when they travel to Japan in search of their missing mentor. Making matters difficult is the fact Christianity was outlawed during feudal Japan, making their presence forbidden.
Martin Scorsese brings Endo’s masterpiece to life, directing a star-studded cast. Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver play the missionaries while Liam Neesom portrays their missing mentor. Tadanobu Asano and Ciarán Hinds round out the cast.
Silence debuts in limited release on Christmas Day. Check out the stunning trailer below. It looks great. As it should. Apparently, Scorsese’s been developing the film for 25 years. Here’s hoping he snags an Oscar nomination for his long-gestating project. All that time and end up with nothing… I’d be pissed 🙂
