Shawn Mendes releases his self-titled third studio album in three weeks on May 25. It features a couple of collaborations- one with Julia Michaels and another with Khalid. While we still have to wait to sample the former, the Canadian singer just shared the latter.
“Youth” follows the previously shared “In My Blood” and “Lost In Japan.” Mendes and Khalid co-wrote “Youth” with Scott Harris, Geoff Warburton and Teddy Geiger. It’s Mendes’ most R&B offering to date. Most likely due to Khalid’s influence.
“You can’t take my youth away/ This soul of mine will never break/ As long as I wake up today/ You can’t take my youth away,” the duo sing harmoniously together on the chorus.
“I’ve known Khalid for about maybe a little over a year now. We just immediately hit it off. It’s just a really, really awesome friendship, like talking all the time. When things first really started happening for him, we were always like always we gotta get together, we gotta make music, we gotta make music,” Shawn told Zane Lowe in a Beats 1 radio interview.
Gotta say, I’m a fan. Love that Shawn is spreading his wings and showing he’s maturing as an artist. Give “Youth” a spin below.
