Shania Twain Switches Things Up With Synth Ballad ‘Poor Me’

While I love her uptempo hits including “That Don’t Impress Me Much” and “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!,” her ballads “You’re Still the One,” “From This Moment On” and “You’ve Got a Way” are my all-time favorites from Shania Twain. The 51-year-old just shared a new track off her forthcoming comeback album and you guessed it, it’s a slow jam.

Twain played it safe with “Life’s About To Get Good,” the lead cut for Now. With its twangy country-tinged production, it’s everything that her fans would’ve expected and hoped for. “Poor Me” is on the opposite spectrum of that track. With its atmospheric synths and moody beat, it sounds something like The Chainsmokers would produce. It’s a risk and personally, I think one that pays off. I love it.

The emotional track finds Shania singing about the heartbreak of losing her husband to her best friend. Sound familiar? That’s exactly why she divorced her ex-husband Robert John “Mutt” Lange in 2008. Check out “Poor Me” below and weigh in afterward.
