FOX Renews Scream Queens For A Second Season

And like Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhies and Michael Myers, it appears nothing can kill Scream Queens even with its mediocre ratings. The FOX horror series averaged just 2.8 million weekly viewers and a 1.1 demo, but the network decided to give it a second season.

I’m sure the renewal has more to do with wanting to stay on Ryan Murphy’s good graces than anything else. Though the network claims only 30 percent of its audience watched live. Across multiple platforms, the show drew a total audience of 7.2 million viewers, a 167 percent increase from its same-day audience, according to them.

The anthology’s new season will be set in a hospital “where some of the most fascinating and bizarre medical cases are under observation.” No casting announcements have been made but Murphy previously stated that four or five original characters could return for the sophomore season.

“It’s going to take place in a hospital and explore some of the most interesting medical fascinomas,” says Fox boss Gary Newman. “This is something Ryan Murphy loves and had a lot of fun with on Nip/Tuck, and he, Brad [Falchuk] and Ian [Brennan] are going to infuse that sensibility on Scream Queens. ”

Scream Queens wasn’t Murphy’s best show by any means but it did get better towards the season finale. Still, I’m surprised FOX renewed it? Are you? Will you give the show a second shot? Sound off below.
