Sasquatch ’09 – The Submarines

The 2009 Sasquatch Music Festival is only three days away now! I’m so excited, and even more so now that Donovan will be joining me for three days of music, comedy, camping and by the looks of current weather forecasts, SUN!

With only a handful of sleeps left to go, it doesn’t give me much time to showcase many more artists, but be sure to expect both mine and Dono’s reports soon after we’re back.

The Submarines are a cute two piece out of Los Angeles that have quite a bit of experience and pedigree behind them. Female band member Blake Hazard is the great-granddaughter of The Great Gatsby author F. Scott Fitzgerald, and her male counterpart John Dragonetti worked with Pixies’ guitarist on original music for the Showtime show Weeds.

You might recognize one of their songs You, Me & The Bourgeoisie from the various iPhone commercials it’s been featured in (see video below), but they’ve also been featured in a Nip/Tuck episode, recorded a cover of the Weeds stable theme song Little Boxes, and had a song appear in the show Gossip Girl. Chances are, you’ve heard The Submarines

Check out some of their songs on their myspace page. I can’t get over how cute they sound. Very easy to listen indie pop music. Blake’s voice is calming and soft, and the music is bubbly and relaxing. Great for an afternoon concert. I’ll definitely be checking them out in a couple of days.
