Back in July, we wrote about a rap song called “Same Love” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (also featuring Mary Lambert) that shows support of marriage equality and the struggles go through with discrimination and homophobia. Now, the music video for the track has just come out and it is absolutely amazing.
In the video, we follow a boy who grows up struggling with his sexuality before facing a challenging coming out period in terms of acceptance from his family. We then follow him as he meets the love of his life and his family. Not only are we seeing the struggles of accepting sexuality, but because this is an interracial relationship, there’s that as well. The caucasian guy in the relationship I recognize as the former Mr. Gay Seattle and his name is William Pontius. He ends up proposing to the other guy (played by Jairemie Alexander) – such a touching moment.
After their wedding celebrations, we fast forward in life and the two have grown old together. One sits beside the other as he lay in a hospital bed. At this point my eyes are totally watering. This video was so incredibly well done and compliments the title, “Same Love” to a tee.
