A few weeks ago, I did a post on one of my favorite artists of all time, Sade, and her comeback single “Soldier of Love“. Today, Sade unveiled her newest video exclusively to Amazon.com . The song and video are the lead-off single off her upcoming album. It is her first since “Lover’s Rock” in 2000.
Though she’s been in the music industry for 25 years, “Soldier of Love” is only her sixth studio album. For Sade, its a matter of integrity and authenticity. The following quote perfectly summarizes her philosophy.
“I only make records when I feel I have something to say. I’m not interested in releasing music just for the sake of selling something. Sade is not a brand.”
It’s amazing how timeless Sade’s looks are. 25 years later, she’s still sporting the same look she did for her big-splash debut- hair pulled back ponytail with big-ass hoop earrings. Hey, if it ain’t broke, don’t try to fix it. Taking the helm for music directing duties is Sophie Muller. The British-born director was behind the camera for Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody” and “Sex and Fire”. In addition, she’s responsible for producing music videos for Leona Lewis, Mika, Gwen Stefani, Duffy, Beyonce, Shakira and Pink.
If you’re a fan of “Lost” or watched an ABC show in the past week, you might’ve heard snippets of Sade’s “Soldier of Love”. The song can be heard on promos for the final season of “Lost”. “Lost” is widely known for its mysteries, but also for its various torrid love triangles between Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Juliet et al. With Sade’s haunting vocals and passionate lyrics, “Soldier of Love” is a perfect fit for the promotional clips.
With the Olympics around the corner, Sade’s new album and the final season of “Lost” coming soon, 2010 is shaping to be an amazing year. What did you think of the music video? Don’t you just love Sade’s space cowboy lasso’ing outfit? She’s working some serious hairography during that segment.
