Apparently his popular franchises, American Horror Story, American Crime Story, FEUD and upcoming new offerings Pose (F/X) and 9-1-1 (FOX) aren’t enough to keep Ryan Murphy busy. The 51-year-old producer has added another project to his empire.
Murphy is working on a prequel to the Oscar-winning film, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. According to Deadline, Ratched is an “origins story, beginning in 1947, which will follow Nurse Ratched’s journey and evolution from nurse to full-fledged monster. The series will track her murderous progression through the mental health care system.”
Louise Fletcher won a Best Actress Oscar for playing the tyrant nurse in the original 1975 film. Murphy has, not surprisingly, tapped his favorite muse to play the younger version. Apparently, Sarah Paulson and Ryan just can’t quit each other. Talk about co-dependency issues 😉
Ratched marks Murphy’s first collaboration with Netflix. Reportedly, the streaming service was victorious in a heated bidding war with Hulu and Apple for the series. Ratched, which immediately scored a two-season 18-episode order, will begin sometime in mid-2018.
Michael Douglas, who was an executive producer on the original, will return to co-exec with Murphy. Like he does with all his projects, Murphy will direct the first episode.
Does Ratched appeal to you? Is Murphy overextending himself? Sound off below.
