Russell Tovey Makes His Debut As Openly Gay Superhero The Ray For CW Crossover Event

Last season’s crossover event bolstered the ratings for Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow . Naturally, The CW greenlit another one in hopes of replicating the success. Unlike last year which aired over four nights, this one is more like a four-hour movie over two nights. “Crisis On Earth X” kicks off Monday, November 27.

“Crisis on Earth X”: Barry and Iris’s wedding brings the gang together, but things go awry when villains from Earth-X attack the ceremony. All of the superheroes band together with help from their super friends like Citizen Cold (guest star Wentworth Miller), The Ray (guest star Russell Tovey, Quantico), Felicity Smoak, Iris West and Alex Danvers to take on their most formidable villains yet. Earth’s mightiest heroes – Green Arrow, Supergirl, The Flash and White Canary – lead their teams into battle to save the world.”

Russell Tovey makes his Arrowverse debut on Monday as well. The 36-year-old actor plays The Ray, a superhero with the ability to manipulate light living on an alternative Earth where the Nazis won World War II. Like Tovey in real life, his character Ray Terrill/The Ray is openly gay.

If you enjoy Tovey during the crossover event, you can get more of him as the superhero. He’ll voice The Ray in the animated series, Freedom Fighters: The Ray, available on The CW’s online streaming platform in December.

Love The Ray’s penis helmet. I love Russell Tovey more. Glad he joined the Arrowverse. Thanks Mr. Berlanti.
