RuPaul’s Drag Race 5: Episode 1 ‘RuPaullywood’ Recap & Our Interview With The Eliminated Queen

HELLO RACERS!!!
Did you catch the premiere of RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 5? Wasn’t it everything? I have to tell you after the mess that was All Stars it was so refreshing to be able to go back to a brand new season with brand new contestants that we can get to know and love (or hate!) all over again. After watching the first episode I have already picked my Top 6, and have picked my Bottom 3. The rest are somewhere in the middle which is never a good thing. Now before I reveal who I think can go all the way, let’s do a lil review of what happened during the premiere episode shall we?
In customary form all the queens started to enter the work room, I can’t really judge who has IT right off the bat because everyone is super nice and dressed to the nines, but I can tell you that Detox, Roxxxy and Honey definitely shined for me, as I’m sure they did for most of you. We learned that Detox and Roxxxy have known each other for a long time, and we learned that Alaska has finally made it onto Drag Race after many years of trying. Their first challenge was an underwater photo shoot in their looks. HELLO TOP MODEL MUCH?!? Season two when April (my fave) STOLE the photo shoot. For our girls though it was a bit of a mess. Most couldn’t get down enough, some floundered and Alaska just gave up. Which was really surprising to me considering she has wanted the opportunity to be on the show for long. Yes this is a point that many are going to bring up, and yes I’m sure she has left an odd taste in people’s mouths after that but what are you gonna do? It’s episode one but right now she hasn’t really made an impact.
After the photoshoot and Detox’s deserved win, it was time for the main challenge but not before a really cheesy green screen double decker bus interlude. So silly. Once they got off the bus is was off to “Beverly Hills“. I saw that in quotations because Marco Marco is in Hollywood. Sorry totally destroyed some TV magic there. OOPS! The main challenge was to dumpster dive for fabric and supplies and make a red carpet couture look. Always with the couture, I guess we’re going to see a lot of shoulder pieces again!
In the workroom we start getting to know everyone, and now I’m starting to see who I like and who I just am not featuring. Right of the back is Miss ROXXXY ANDREWS with her makeup dress that is just killing me. I love her. She’s perfect, she funny, a GREAT queen and you know what, I think we’re ready for someone juicy to take the crown right? The pieces are coming together and it’s time to get ready for the runway. Right away Serena blah blah is just flapping her gums like it’s going out of style. We are over her before she even started hunty! She needs to calm down and take a pill. Kudos to Vivienne for putting her in her place. Somebody needed too.
On the runway Ru was joined by Michelle Visage, Santino, Mike Ruiz and Camille Grammar. After the awkward judges introductions (I hate those) they queens started coming down the runway. Who stood out was Roxxy & Lynesha for me. Definitely the best. Serena, Penny Tration and Jade Jolie were definitely the worst. I also was not really into Alyssa Edwards at all. She kept opening and closing her mouth like a fish gasping for air. It was so strange, I hope that’s not a thing for her this season.
Roxxxy Andrews was crowned the winner (DESERVED) and the bottom two this week were Penny Tration and Serena blah blah. During the lip sync Penny just didn’t know her words and Serena was definitely going to win this one. Which she did, blah blah. I am so over Serena she needs to go. As we say goodbye to Penny I have made my list of who I think the best queens are this season, are you ready?
My queen to win is obviously ROXXXY ANDREWS. She’s perfection.
Detox, Honey, Lynesha, Ivy & Jinkx are in the top end of my list.
The bottom have to be Serena, Alyssa and Coco. I just don’t get Coco, she looks like Flava Flav. And her eyes freak me out with those contacts. Not for me that.
The rest are somewhere in the middle I can’t really even remember who they are. I’m looking forward to seeing what else they’ve got in store and like everyone I’m dying to know the drama between Coco and Alyssa. However I think they are just going to keep dragging that out until the reunion episode.

Rumor has it that Alyssa won the pageant and CoCo came runner up. Alyssa got was caught in some scandal resulting in her losing her crown, and since CoCo was runner up, she therefore was the title holder.
The scandal was apparently leaked by CoCo since CoCo and Alyssa were best friends, they knew all the tea about each other. CoCo threw Alyssa under the bus for the crown, resulting in them not talking for 2 years.

Detox, Lynesha and Honey are my top three. I had no idea what to expect from Lynesha going in but she was flawless, very polished and my early money says she’s going to be the first Puerto Rican to be crowned the next drag superstar. Detox was great, looked fantastic, gave good TV and Honey is gorgeous. Felt sorry for Alaska, she’s going to cop a lot of shit this season and already is. I thought the horse mask was genius and I loved her three looks for the episode, that legionnaires hat outfit was gorgeous! Roxxxy was nice but… boring, I’m bored, was bored the whole time.
Importantly Untucked gave us our first previews of longevity.
I counted at least 5 outfits for Alaska and as many for Detox, Alyssa and Coco. Didn’t pick up on many of the others but looks like we’ll at least get a good run out of those girls.

Telling you right now. Not as a spoiler, but as I see it in my very bright head. Top 3 will be Roxxy, Lineysha and Jinkx. Just watch me.

My favourite queens:
CoCo (seriously, I love her confessionals, her runway was awesome) – I know she’s not everyone’s fave, Jinkx, Ivy and Roxxxy!
I hope Honey doesn’t get the Sahara edit (she was invisible this episode but her runway was giving me MY LIFE!)
Alyssa and Alaska – I’m so over them. Alaska flashing her dick? Really? Her “effortless” humour is so forced.
Serena – if you wanna be the bitch, please have the goods to back it up. Raven and Willam are examples. That runway was like Shangela’s lamp – the sequel!
Jade’s sweet. Vivienne meh. Lineysha – Madame LaQueer has an amazing daughter! Monica – Dida Ritz part 2, sweet :-). Penny – sashay away…

I’m still not sure who to pick for the top six or the bottom three, since this show always surprises me when it comes to the eliminations. I was working late at DISH when Drag Race aired, but I rushed home in time to watch it. Normally, Monday nights in my home involves a battle over the TV between me and my husband, since he likes to watch sports when I watch my shows. We settled our argument with a new DISH Hopper Whole-Home HD DVR; with it we can watch 4 different HD programs in different rooms at the same time. Finally, I get to watch my favorite shows in peace.
