Another Rosie has bit the dust. Just six months after joining the panel, Rosie Perez is leaving The View. The White Man Can’t Jump actress is the second panelist to leave this season, following in Rosie O’Donnell’s footsteps.
O’Donnell and Perez were added, along with Nicole Wallace, as part of a major overhaul of the long-running daytime show this year. It appears more huge changes are in store for Season 19. Raven-Symoné was recently hired as a permanent host and it is expected frequent stand-in, comedian Michelle Collins, will be added as well.
Executive Producer Bill Wolff broke the news today in an email sent out to the staff. Read it below.
“Our friend Rosie Perez has decided to leave the show at the conclusion of this season to pursue full time her love for acting,” Wolff’s email said. “Stepping into the role of talk show host at the same time she has been starring on Broadway has been incredibly impressive. And beyond being an enormously talented performer, Rosie is a dedicated advocate who has brought passion and insight to the panel every day. Rosie will always be a part of The View family, and we will welcome her back as a guest anytime to catch up. We’ll plan a proper send off for her in a few weeks, but in the meantime, please join me in thanking her for her great work on the show.”
Reports suggest that producers are looking to lighten up the tone of the ABC show by adding the likes of model Molly Sims and stylist Stacy London or perhaps have a bench of rotating co-hosts.
