Music Roundup: Rita Ora Drops ‘Velvet,’ ZAYN & Nicki Minaj Team Up, J-Hud Uplifts & More

When I checked my email this morning, I was flooded with a barrage of new music notifications. Rather than do separate posts, I thought I’d bunch them all in one for your listening pleasure. Who am I kidding? I was too lazy 😉

Rita Ora ‘Velvet’ Lyric Video

Rita Ora drops a deluxe edition of her Phoenix album next week, November 23. It’ll feature some new cuts including this one titled “Velvet.” It’s about Ora feeling heartbroken that her ex has already moved on. “Where did it go? / The love that we shared / Guess we’ll never know / Is it hidden behind that velvet rope?,” Rita sings on the melodic track.

6LACK & Normani ‘Waves’

On the heels of her Khalid and Calvin Harris collabos, the former Fifth Harmony member teams up with 6LACK on “Waves.” It’s an atmospheric moody breakup number featuring some serious bass. “First I blame you, then I want you,” Normani declares, “Fucking hate you, then I love you/ I can’t help myself, no/ When I have you, wanna leave you/ If you go, that’s when I need you.”

ZAYN ft. Nicki Minaj ‘No Candle No Light’

Nicki Minaj is featuring her ass everywhere these days. This year alone, she’s popped up on tracks from Post Malone, BTS, Little Mix, Jason Derulo, Ariana Grande and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The 35-year-old rapper now teams up with ZAYN for his track “No Candle No Light.” It’s about a love that’s lost its spark.

Jennifer Hudson ‘I’ll Fight’ Music Video

Jennifer Hudson belts out a number for the documentary RBG. In addition to Ruth Bader Ginsburg, “I’ll Fight,” penned by Diane Warren, celebrates other female trailblazers including Goria Steinem, Dorothy Pitman-Hughes and more. The track is also a tribute to everyone who voted in the midterms. “Even though the election has ended,” Warren said, “the fight isn’t over.”
