The trailer for “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” has just been released, and I must say it looks amazing. The premise of this prequel is: “An origin story set in present day San Francisco, where man’s own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.”
The film stars James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, among several others and features some pretty incredibly real looking apes thanks to the work of WETA Digital, the same company that did the visual effects in Avatar. The intense and dramatic music in the trailer sets the mood for the summer action/adventure blockbuster film. In the trailer, we see a group of scientists, led by James Franco’s character, have been working on a drug that has, as a side affect, boosted brain function and increased intelligence in the apes. With this increased intelligence has come a great danger. “Our greatest discovery will become our greatest threat,” as the trailer says.
So far, this film is the one I’m most looking forward to this summer. Of course, you can never go wrong with James Franco…but aside from that, it looks incredible anyway. The film was shot in Vancouver. Check it out below.
