With 12 No. 1 hits and her first No. 1 album under her belt, Rihanna is looking to conquer other forms of media. The “Diamonds” singer recently announced she’s heading to reality television. And before you get too excited (or disgusted depending on your stance with unscripted shows), it’s not a voyeuristic docu-series like Nicki Minaj’s E! show or Britney Spears‘ UPN trainwreck from years ago. Instead, the 24-year-old will be channeling Heidi Klum.
“Fashion has always played an integral part in my life and career,” says Rihanna. “I am so excited to partner with Style Network and share my creative insight with these 12 designers and give them this opportunity to showcase their work.”
RiRi will handpick 12 up-and-coming designers to compete for a chance to design clothes for A-list celebrities. Accompanied by experts in the fashion industry who’ll act as mentors, Rihanna will whittle down the field until a winner is revealed. Styled To Rock will air 10 half-hour episodes on the Style channel. In addition to starring in the fashion competition, she’ll also executive produce the project. Styled To Rock is set to air sometime in 2013. Will Smith will also co-produce the show.
The series launches with a nationwide search on StyleNetwork.com for cutting-edge designers looking to take their craft to the next level. Rihanna will personally select the 12 designers who will compete for the coveted opportunity to dress some of the biggest names in entertainment. To help the designers reach their ultimate artistic potential, Rihanna will enlist the guidance of three top experts from the fashion industry to serve as mentors. Each week, challenges will push the designers to their creative limits when they are tasked with styling an A-list star. Each week’s celebrity guest will determine which designer best achieves their vision – and advances to the next week of competition. Faced with the threat of elimination, the remaining designers must meet with the mentors to discuss where they fell short and ultimately who will be sent home. In the end, one designer will be named the winner of “Styled to Rock.”
Styled To Rock won’t be her only foray into fashion. Robyn Rihanna Fenty will also debut her first fashion line called River Island in February 2013. Would you watch a Rihanna-headlined fashion reality show? It’s kinda ironic that the woman who loves to pose naked is fronting a show about clothes. LOL. Sound off below.
