At last count, the “Gangnam Style” music video surpassed 1.5 billion on YouTube. It’s the McDonald’s of online clips 😉 As astonishing as that number is, the number keeps growing. Who’s still watching this? Hard as he may try, I don’t think Psy will ever come close to that total again, even if you combine his next ten singles. But it is K-pop and people are unpredictable that way. Just look at the “Harlem Shake phenomenon,” which I still don’t get.
The 35-year-old South Korean rapper just unveiled the follow up single to his gigantic hit, titled “Gentleman.” The track is another catchy ball of fun. It features a similar monotonous synth beat that’ll prove inescapable once it gets in your head. I have no idea what he’s saying in most of it, but there some wonderful misheard lyrics like, “I’m a mother-father gentleman.” It’s no “condom style”, but you get the gist.
In the end, it’s not the lyrics nor production of the song that will determine “Gentleman’s” success, but rather the music video. I can’t wait to see it. Psy was spotted filming it earlier this week in South Korea. Check out his new track below.
Psy – Gentleman
What do you think of the track? A worthy successor to “Gangnam Style”? Speaking of which, are you still doing the invisible horse dance? Sound off below.
