If there are still any doubters that believe PSY’s “Gangnam Style” isn’t a global phenomenon, here’s some hard proof. The Korean pop star has made the Guinness Book of World Records. What’s his record-breaking achievement? PSY’s highly-spoofed music video is now the “Most Liked Video on YouTube.”
“Having been the “have you seen this?!” video of the last two months across the web, it’s great to be able to award a record for this tremendously popular video. In years past it was unthinkable that something would be viewed a hundred million times, and now “Gangnam Style” has achieved more than twice this figure in just 3 months on YouTube. PSY – your certificate is waiting here at our office, come pick it up any time!” – Guinness World Records Community Manager, Dan Barrett
With over 2,141,758 likes as of press time, “Gangnam Style” shatters previous record holder LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” with 1,574,963. Maybe that’s why LMFAO broke up ;) Other top YouTube liked videos include Justin Bieber’s “Baby” and Adele’s “Rolling In The Deep” with 1,327,147 and 1,245,641 likes respectively. Bieber shouldn’t feel too bad dropping to third place, his “Baby” clip still holds the record for most viewed video online with 780,476,653 views.
PSY (real name: Park Jae-Sang) not only has conquered YouTube, but also iTunes as well by being the first South Korean to top the iTunes charts. It’s literally everywhere you go these days. You’re probably tired of all the spoofs, but I thought I’d include one featuring navy boys in their white uniforms invisible horse dancing. Who doesn’t like seeing hot guys? From their barracks, on boats to bathroom urinals, these sexy seaman show off their “Gangnam Style”. Check it out below.
Just in case you were wondering who PSY’s love interest was in “Gangnam Style”, she’s a popular K-Pop singer named Hyuna. She also filmed a video with PSY playing second fiddle to her. Check it out. Her adorable dance moves will win you over. She’s like a Korean Sailor Moon.
