Ryan Murphy just welcomed an A-list star to his ever-growing stable of actors. The 51-year-old producer has convinced Penélope Cruz to star in the third season of American Crime Story. The Academy Award winner will play fashion designer Donatella Versace.
Based on the book Vulgar Favors by Vanity Fair writer Maureen Orth, American Crime Story: Versace/Cunanan will explore the shocking assassination of legendary designer Gianni Versace on the steps of his Miami Beach mansion. He was the fifth and final victim of serial killer Andrew Cunanan.
Cruz joins previously announced cast members Edgar Ramirez and Darren Criss who’ll play Gianni Versace and Andrew Cunanan respectively. There were rumors early on that Lady Gaga was to play Donatella, but those were shot down by Murphy himself. Production is set to begin in April with a 2018 air date in mind.
Never envisioned Penelope as Donatella before but I don’t hate the casting. I think the Spanish actress will do fantastically in the role. Do you think so? Weigh in below.
