party-down-cast

Update April 2010: Party Down just started it’s second season! While Jane Lynch is all “Glee”-ed up this year, we get the amazing Megan Mullally (God, I can’t believe I’m going to explain because if you don’t know her, kill yourself: she’s Karen from “Will and Grace”) this time around and already two episodes in this show is just as funny the second time around!

While on a recent jaunt to Atlanta I found myself stuck without my laptop and abundance of carefully chosen downloaded and awaiting flicks to resort to when the hangover kicks in and the possibility of having to brave actual daylight seems comparable to a root canal by Sloth from “Goonies”… So, I tried out the American sensation of Netflix. Now, most of you know what this is so won’t waste time overly describing it (it’s an online system where you can order dvd’s to rent via the mail or have them instantly streamed onto your computerr) but what I will say is that unfortunately the available online options are pretty limited. There’s a lot of newer options but the classics are few and far between. Still, there are a couple gems and this weekend I found one: “Party Down”.

Let me just start off my saying this: Jane Lynch. Are you sold yet? Yes, the infamous Sue Sylvester from “Glee” is concurrently staring in this “Office”-esque comedy and is rockin’ both roles. From the creators of “Veronica Mars” which basically ruled me like an overpaid dominatrix for the years it ran, “Party Down” is a hilarious and well-wrought, lower-budget look at the lives of 5 out-of-work “biz” folk (mostly actors) who have to resort to the world catering to pay the bills. Sounds simple but it’s extremely well put together and … did I mention Jane Lynch?

I won’t rattle off the list of actors and actresses in this one- mostly because you won’t likely recognize their names but watch the preview below and you’ll definitely remember lots of the faces (their names are in the tags at the bottom of this article though if you would like to know em’). Being created by the good people at V-Mars, there’s a litany of actors from the series that show up as regulars or special guest stars throughout the episodes. Actually, it’s one of those “every new episode has a new special guest” as the man or woman hosting the party the “Party Down” cast are covering that episode. So without further adieu, here’s the clip… even if it doesn’t completely tickle ye old funny bone to the point of tears do try it on Netflix or do what I did and spent 18 minutes downloading the series off torrent, wait what? I don’t do that.. ;)

Enjoy!
