freerunning

Growing up, and to this day, I have always found gymnasts really hot. It amazes me the amount of control, power and flexibility they are able to achieve, and of course a hot body to go along with it. I always found it funny that people think of football as a really manly sport and gymnastics as a gay sport. I guess it has to do with the body contact and no need for pointed toes in football. Yet, football players occasionally do a tuck in celebration when they score a touchdown: an obvious gymnastics move.

Parkour and freerunning are two sports that remind me a lot of gymnastics, but with a mix of martial arts and craziness. Both are sports with no set rules, where you’re basically training for flight rather than fight. Apparently the difference between the two is that with Parkour, you move as rapidly as possible, but also in a direct and efficient fashion, where with freerunning there is more of an emphasis on creativity and freedom of movement. I’m sure most people have seen YouTube videos of these people and it was in the opening chase scene of the James Bond, Casino Royale.

The stunts these athletes are able to achieve are quite astonishing and it’s thrilling to watch. The outtakes are pretty damn entertaining and painful to watch as well.

I’m writing about this because I happened upon a video today of Damien Walters, a guy from the UK who has actually been an Olympic gymnast. I believe he’s a freerunner, as he obviously is creative with his moves. The crazy stunts he performs make you wonder how he is still alive and not broken today. This video is the most impressive and crazy of all Parkour and freerunning videos I’ve ever seen. I don’t think anyone would call this a gay sport.

Enjoy!
