The world of athletics has always produced many figures that children, teens and men around the world look up to. Whether it’s their superior skills on the field or off-court antics, sport stars often become role models. Historically speaking, professional sports and all their male bravado haven’t been the best environment to come out or a place of tolerance. Thankfully, all that is slowly changing. In recent memory, a few professional sports teams have participated in the “It Gets Better” campaign and marched in their respective city’s Pride parade. And those who have used homophobic slurs in derogatory terms have been fined or reprimanded by their league’s governing body.

Among those at the forefront of promoting LGBT acceptance are a few prominent athletes. Sure, there are a couple of “out” athletes who fight the good fight, but they’re numerous straight sport stars as well who have stood up for fairness and tolerance. Out Magazine’s latest issue highlights five sport studs standing shoulder-to-shoulder with their LGBT peers. Not only do they applaud their efforts but their hotness as well.
