Hot off her interview with Rihanna on Sunday night, Oprah Winfrey is looking to book the next big ‘get’. Given that OWN’s two highest rated shows focused on musicians, it’s a savvy move to look at someone in the music industry. Oprah’s sit-down with RiRi garnered 2.5 million viewers, netting the network’s second highest ratings. Only Winfrey’s exclusive chat with Bobbi Kristina after Whitney Houston’s death generated higher ratings with 3.5 million. Producers are trying to book a certain embattled singer, but unfortunately she’s denied their request, as revealed by O on her Twitter. Have any guesses on who?
Before I reveal who it is, I quickly wanted to congratulate Oprah and her team for turning the beleaguered network around. It’s definitely not a huge success yet, but it’s certainly on the uptick. OWN just notched its 31st consecutive week of total day growth across all key demos versus year ago numbers. It’s up double digits in both primetime and total day for the year as well.
The momentum is definitely helping launch successful new shows. Lovetown which premiered after the Rihanna interview, bowed as the second highest premiere on the network ever. The show is conducting a unique social experiment on love focusing on residents of a Georgian town. Critics and naysayers ready to write off the network, forgot the O factor. With her devoting all her efforts on the network now, there is no way she’s going down without a fight.
OWN 3Q 2012 to date
- Prime growth versus year ago: +35% W25-54, +36% total viewers
- Total Day growth versus year ago: +60% W25-54, +59% total viewers
OWN Year-to-Date
- Prime growth versus year ago: +15% W25-54 and +15% total viewers
- Total Day growth versus year ago: +36% W25-54; +33% total viewers

The artist rejecting Oprah’s invitation to appear on Oprah’s Next Chapter is none other than Lauryn Hill. That would be one interview I would love to see. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill singer has faced numerous troubles since her Grammy Award-winning album. Rumors swirled that she was mentally unstable and in recent weeks has made headlines for facing possible imprisonment. Reportedly, she didn’t file federal taxes for over three years and could face up to three years in prison.
Last summer, she had some baby daddy issues. Rohan Marley who is the father of her first five children did not father her sixth child. At the time, people had assumed they were still together since there was no public confirmation they had split. Since then, they have parted ways with Marley engaged to Victoria’s Secret model Isabeli Fontana now. Hopefully, the 37-year-old former Fugee changes her mind. I just adore her and to this day, “Ex-Factor“, “Doo Wop (That Thing)“, “Everything Is Everything” still gets played on my iPhone.
Why do you think Lauryn Hill is denying Oprah’s request? Is she afraid that Winfrey will break her? Perhaps, she’s just to frail and afraid to have a public breakdown. Thoughts? Sound off below.

If only you knew the actual reason… sigh.

Simple, I’ll explain it – she’s a nutjob. From making her fans wait over 2+ hours for EVERY SHOW, to her thinking that not playing the hits on tour or changing them so radically that they are indistinguishable to even the most seasoned fan, clearly means she thinks she’s still worth all the fuss they made about her during Miseducation…and you can’t really blame her – the praise she received back then was phenomenal and it just went to her head…and never left.
She really needs a reality check…and to check her calendar at what the date is.

She’d be an interesting interview but I don’t think she’d be that great for ratings. As great of an artist as she is, she’s not current. I haven’t heard anything about her music in years.

you’re right, she is not that current or relevant and that’s exactly why this whole “rejection of oprah” is happening. to make her current and to get people to watch when she eventually comes on. i wouldn’t be surprised if oprah planned this whole rejection herself. she is, after all, a master at self-promotion

This is crazy because I just was talking about her to a friend the other day. I loved her music and she was AMAZING in Sister Act 2 and I’ve been wondering what happened? I think this would be a huge ratings boost for Oprah because people love hot messes and she is at the top. BUT she is a talented hot mess :)

Saw her at Coachella a couple years ago and she rocked. The crowd was pumped and you could see tears in peoples eyes. The best performance that year. So she may have mental health issues, who cares? She has always seemed private to me. She must still be relevant because Ms. O wants her, but the O show doesn’t seem like Ms. Hills style.
