With the all-female Ghostbusters receiving so much backlash before its release, I was half expecting Warner Bros. would pull the plug on its estrogen Oceans Eleven film. Not so (Thank God). The studio and Village Roadshow announced that the all-female caper will break into theaters June 8, 2018.
Ocean’s 8 features a star-studded cast headlined by Sandra Bullock. The Gravity actress will be joined by Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter, Nora Lum (who goes by the rap name Awkwafina), Mindy Kaling and Sarah Paulson. Gary Ross, who directed the original Hunger Games film, is on board to helm the project. Steven Soderbergh who was behind the Ocean’s Eleven trilogy will also co-produce.
“It’s a pretty similar tone. You know, Steven Soderbergh and I are incredibly close friends, and we would not have done this if we weren’t. I don’t think he would’ve wanted anyone to do it if we weren’t. This is very much an extension and a continuation,” director Gary Ross told Slashfilm.
No plot details have leaked yet, but I expect plenty of fun and lots of wisecracking like the George Clooney films. Ocean’s 8 is scheduled to face off against Transformers 6. My money is on these ladies knocking out those robots in disguise.
Excited for Ocean’s 8? What do you think of the cast? Who would you replace and with whom? Weigh in below.
