How much more can we love this man?? Let’s face it, he’s achieved an almost demi-God status (which can easily turn demi-Devil, Demi Lavato and/or Demi Moore with any mis-step).
Yet, I still give the man props for “publicly” supporting the queer nation.
“Picture it, Washington DC, 1878… the 19th President (Rutherford B Hayes) started, what remains to this day, the annual Easter Egg Roll.”
Obama and his clan has decided that this year, families with Gay Dads and Lesbian Moms are invited to participate. We may not be the “picture perfect” example of what a family is, but we are the perfect picture of what families have evolved into.
Thank you Mister Obama for again making us feel like we are being seen, being heard and most importantly, being included.

Are you serious? The man is AGAINST same-sex marriage and has done NOTHING to end the ban on LGBTs in the US military. His intervention in the California anti-same-sex marriage proposition would have DEFEATED it, but he didn’t support us even in a state where he would have won easily. He is a conservative at heart and doesn’t support our full equality. What is it with you homos who think he is your friend? Maybe you should actually know what you are talking about before you comment on it.

umm okay j dumarais….
What is it with homos who cannot accept that marriage is a relgious based thing and has nothing to do with whether or not someone is okay with gays or not.
obama is religious underneath it all – and he grew up in islamic countries – and approving gay marriage isnt very pro religious. u have to accept that most religions are not pro-gay mariiage and that being said if obama is religious his family and congregation (and all the relgious americans) wouldnt support a man who did not support their belief values–regardless of what they may say to appear politically correct.

If marriage is all about religion, then why is it legislated, run by the state, and come with civil benefits? If you want to keep it religious, keep it in the church and make it mean nothing at all outside of religion. Otherwise, let us in.

Obama loves the gays because they vote for him. He just doesn’t want to do anything too dramatic for them or he will piss off middle America who he needs to vote for him more. Sigh. Politics is all about numbers people.

Exactly! Minority human rights are subject to the will of the majority in the US. If it loses votes, politicians won’t touch it! Religion has nothing to do with civil marriage. People keep confusing them and assuming churches will be forced to sanction same-sex unions. Separation of church and state, folks. Obama is a constitutional law professor. He knows better than to introduce his ‘faith’ into the debate. It’s a smokescreen and an excuse.

I completely agree with Rich. I’m sure Obama would LOVE to change about 1000 things during his term concerning how the country is run etc. but that’s not how politics work. To stay effective and in power you HAVE to sacrifice and find compromises in your attempts at change. I think Jonny recognizes this president is educated, reasonable, caring and clearly shows a strong stance against bigotry and intolerance. He’s begun making changes for “us” and is putting the White House in a direction of acceptance… something that does NOT happen overnight nor with the wave of a presidential wand. It’s a slow process, but he’s moving us in the right direction.

Now if only he would give up on his anti-Canadian protectionist trade policies. Sheesh.

Change won’t happen with out FIGHTING for it. That includes pressuring those in power who are just giving lip service to human rights. If Obama was truly committed to full equality, he would already have made executive orders granting same-sex partners of civil servants the same rights as opposite-sex partners, opened the military up to LGBTs, etc. He has made dozens of orders on other controversial subjects such as birth control, abortion and stem cell research. Rich is right, Obama takes the LGBT votes for granted! Take the rose-coloured glasses off, boys, Obama is just another politician who won’t do anything for us until he is forced to or there is a significant threat to his constituency. Stop being grateful for crumbs and realize you deserve the whole cake!!!

All this from an annual Easter Egg Roll?? LOL I fucking love it!! Let’s just make one thing clear, change requires time. Many of us want the drive thru version (aka make an order, pay up, and it’s in your hands relatively quick.)
Sadly, sometimes it takes longer. But at the very least, when people in high political power like Mr. Obama are able to show that “yeah, this is part of the norm” we’re starting to see that change happen. Even if it is slower/not exactly how we wanted it. Now eat a fuckg mini egg and chill ppl ;)
