When Sam Smith and Normani first teased their collaboration last week, I was trying not to get too excited. There’s nothing worse than having high expectations, only to be let down. That’s not the case here. These two just delivered a slinky bop that’s bound to do some damage on the charts.
“Dancing With A Stranger” came about due to a chance encounter between the two. Smith was in Los Angeles writing a new song in one recording studio while Normani was recording just next door. Since the two are fans of each other, naturally they decided to join forces. The result is a seductive and sultry number about not being over your recent ex.
“I don’t want to be alone tonight/It’s pretty clear that I’m not over you/I’m still thinking ‘bout the things you do/So I don’t want to be alone tonight,” Smith sings on the track. “Can you light the fire/I need somebody who can take control/I know exactly what I need to do/Cos I don’t want to be alone tonight.”
My only complaint is that it’s too short, coming in just under three minutes. Nothing a hot remix can’t fix. Give it a listen below. The accompanying visual is reportedly on the way.
