Rising Artist Spotlight: Nikki Williams ‘Kill, F**k, Marry’

Gotta hand it to Nikki Williams‘ people for orchestrating an attention-grabbing debut. With a salacious song title and the inclusion of a sexy male model (Austin Sanderson) who happens to be one of Cosmo’s “50 Most Eligible Bachelors” this month, how could I not sample her music video. In addition, “Kill, Fuck, Marry” was co-penned by Sia who recently gave the world Rihanna’s “Diamonds“. With that much hype, Nikki better not disappoint.

On paper, the song wasn’t what I expected from her. Williams is originally from South Africa and moved to Nashville at the age of 16. A country singer she is not. Her discovery is stuff legends are made of. While singing near the bathroom at Hollywood’s Roosevelt Hotel, talent manager/label owner Breyon Prescott (Brandy, Jamie Foxx) walked by and became mesmerized by her soul-stirring, searing voice and signed her on the spot. Williams is the first artist to be released under a new partnership between Prescott’s Chameleon label and Island Def Jam.

What a revelation this 22-year-old singer is. With her powerful voice, Williams is easily one artist to watch for in 2013 and that’s why I chose her for our Rising Artist Spotlight series. The track is a gut-wrenching story about love set to a powerful electronic beat with subtle piano moments. As you would expect with Sia’s songwriting, the lyrics are extremely poetic and visual. Check out this snippet, “And passion feeds lust when the trust is questioned. And the going gets tough when the pain is lessened.” Wicked, right? Watch the steamy clip below.

What do you think? Does Nikki Williams have what it takes for a successful career? How hot is the guy in her video? Sound off below.

  • Ritchard Mckie

Powerful voice, Not sure about a huge career but she certainly can get by with that voice. Her career might be in Country music rather than Pop but she might also do both.

  • Ted

No place in the market for her. Jessie J is just barely staying afloat, who is basically a more talented version of this bia.
