Scream Queens Premieres Surprisingly Low Despite Nick Jonas Shirtless Workout

Scream Queens was poised to open big given its star-studded cast, slick ad campaign and strong tracking numbers. However, Ryan Murphy’s latest offering sorta stumbled out of the gate. It only attracted 4 million viewers with a 1.7 rating in the coveted demo. Meanwhile, fellow newcomers ABC’s The Muppets and CBS’ Limitless notched 8.9 million (2.8 rating) and 9.8 million (1.8) respectively.

There is some silver lining to Scream Queens‘ premiere though. The ratings throughout the two hour premiere remained steady, which means those who tuned in, stayed tuned in. I’m also certain, the FOX comedy horror will skyrocket when DVR playback is factored in.

Murphy has promised a death in every episode of this season. What the producer needs to promise is guaranteed shirtless male eye candy. Not that the premiere didn’t have its fair share. Glen Powell and Diego Boneta bared their chest, but it was Nick Jonas who stole the show. From his snuggling antics and shirtless workout, his gay character took the spotlight.

Check out that montage below, along with my quick thoughts on the show. Minor spoilers ahead for those who haven’t seen the episode.

Shirtless Nick Jonas Workout

Here are my quick thoughts on the show. Scream Queens definitely skews more campy than horror. Though I enjoyed it, I was expecting more from a Murphy production. There were memorable one-liners but not nearly enough. I want more politically incorrect ones to boot. Deaf Taylor Swift had me cracking the most but they unfortunately killed her off.

Speaking of death scenes, how hilarious was Ariana Grande’s texting death scene. I chuckled hard. My favorite characters so far are played by Keke Palmer, Abigail Breslin, Emma Roberts, Powell and Jonas. The lead girl I’m not feeling yet. Are we supposed to be rooting for her, because I’m not. My least favorite by far is Boneta. He’s probably not the killer, so hopefully he gets slain soon 🙂
