The 2011 NewNowNext Awards: Homorazzi Covers Red Carpet

Last night, Logo aired the fourth annual NewNowNext Awards in glittery fashion. James Van Der Beek hosted the irreverent awards show honoring everything fantastical in pop culture and tomorrow’s next big things. This year the awards returned back to Los Angeles but at a new venue- the Avalon. I’ve been to the venue numerous times, mostly to dance my butt off at Tigerheat. It was definitely odd to go during daylight at last Thursday’s taping to cover the red carpet and interview this years nominees and presenters. Special shout out goes to Logo for giving Alex and I such a great spot on the red carpet.

In addition to the regular award categories, this year’s ceremony honored Lady Gaga with the “Always Next, Forever Now Award“. Definitely fitting since, the Fame Monster made her television debut on the NewNowNext Awards years ago. In between awards, the raucous crowd were entertained by wicked performances by Robyn, Panic! at the Disco, Oh Land and Wynter Gordon. The show also featured presenters including by Adam Lambert, Paula Abdul, Carmen Electra, Joey McIntyre (New Kids on the Block), A.J. McLean (Backstreet Boys), Jonathan Knight (New Kids on the Block), Brittany Snow (“Harry’s Law”), Busy Phillips (“Cougar Town”), Perez Hilton, Aubrey O’Day (“All About Aubrey”), Keegan Allen and Torry DeVitto (“Pretty Little Liars”), RuPaul, George Kotsiopolous (“Fashion Police”), Kim Coles, Lisa Lampanelli, Sara Rue (“Shedding for the Wedding”), Gretchen Rossi (“The Real Housewives of Orange County”), Lisa Vanderpump (“The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”) and Josh Kilmer-Purcell and Brent Ridge (“The Fabulous Beekman Boys”). Special appearances from the evening included: Johnny Weir, RuPaul, guest DJ and recording artists Neon Hitch, the queens of “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” Jessica & Hunter and Drew Droege (“Chloe”).

NewNowNext Red Carpet Coverage

Before we headed to the NewNowNext Awards, Alex and I had a game plan. Get Lisa Vanderpump (Real Housewives of DC) at all costs. Yeah, I know there was Adam Lambert, Paula Abdul etc who were bigger, but we love us some Real Housewives. Due to the unseasonably cold weather, we almost lost an opportunity with Lisa. Poor Giggy was shivering as were many of the more scantily dress women and “women” *wink* RuPaul’s Drag Race cast.

Another highlight for us was getting to talk to Tatyana Ali. We had prepped her 90s hit song “Daydreamin‘” on my iPhone and showed it to her before we chatted. Naturally, she laughed. I couldn’t believe we were talking to Ashley Banks from “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air“. LOL. One of our more entertaining exchanges included the Angry Birds from the addictive iPad game. You have to watch it. Speaking of must-see footage, you have to see what the A-List boys had to say about their co-star Reichen Lehmkuhl and his recently leaked naked pics. Austin is exactly like his persona on TV. Viciously catty and I LOVE IT. Hope he serves more of that on Season 2 which incidentally begins taping next week. Check out the awesome time we had on the NewNowNext red carpet. Definitely one for our history books.
