RuPaul Teams Up With JJ Abrams For Biographical Dramedy

Ever wonder how RuPaul Andre Charles became the drag icon that is RuPaul? If things go well, we’ll soon watch the chain of events that led to Ru’s rise from club kid to drag queen to eventual global supertar.

Deadline reports the 56-year-old icon is teaming up with J.J. Abrams for a half-hour dramedy loosely based on RuPaul’s life and experiences. The fictionalized version will take place during the 1980s in New York City.

Abrams’ production company Bad Robot and World of Wonder (RuPaul’s Drag Race producer) are developing the series in association with Warner Bros. Ru herself will serve as executive producer. Reportedly, the series will be shopped around to networks in the near future.

RuPaul is certainly on a roll these days. In addition to this exciting new project, RuPaul’s Drag Race was recently promoted to VH1, he won his first ever hosting Emmy and if that wasn’t enough, he tied the knot with his longtime partner earlier this year. As of now, it’s Ru’s world and we’re merely just living in it.
