New Fox Show: Glee

New TV Obsession Alert! Hooked on Glee and I’ve only seen the trailer!

I just watched the extended trailer for Fox’s new show Glee and I totally just geeked out. If you watch American Idol, you’ve probably seen the commercials for this special series preview. I was already going to tune in, but the extended trailer has CLASSIC written all over it. How can you go wrong with singing and dancing and cheerleaders and hot boys and Jane Lynch and Ryan Murphy… the genius creator of Nip/Tuck!

Glee, which hits the airwaves Tuesday May 19 at 9pm on Fox, looks like a modern day Grease meets Mean Girls with a heavy dose of High School Musical gone Geeks and Freaks. Love it.

I’m already thinking of ways to throw some of these lines out…

“You think this is hard? I’m living with hepatitis. That’s hard.”

“You’ve only got five kids. One of them is a cripple.”

“Oh hell to the nawwww! Look, I’m Beyonce. I ain’t no Kelly Rowlands.”

“It’s not a bad thing to want a life and a glue gun that works.”

And the best Mean Girls wannabe line goes to…

“Getting ready for the tranny prom Rachel?”

Glee stars Cory Monteith, Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Amber Riley, Kevin McHale, Matthew Morrison, Jenna Ushkowitz, and Jessalyn Gilsig. Check it out, my PVR is already set.

Donovan: Our friends at Fox Network are sending us the pilot and we’ll let you know our thoughts when we finish viewing it. I’m sure it’ll be awesome. In the meantime, check out the trailer below.

  • i’m hooked already too. i can’t wait for tuesday. it’s the perfect summer show.

    Mean Girls meets Sister Act.

    I’m sold.

  • Wow! I’m with ICBC on this one (hell just got a little warmer), this show looks like it’s going to rock! I hope they are able to sustain he kind of energy displayed in that trailer, episodically. I’ll be watching!

I have been waiting for this show for a LONG time… I hope my neighbors like me singing along to it as much as they do for Idol (well, at least I think they do…)

I am a GLEE LOVIN FAN!!!! This is such a great looking series and just gives nothing but positive energy and tons of laughs!!! This is a going to get a HUGE gay following, and str8 one for that matter. This series has tons of gay references, fabulous numbers, some pretty killer one liners like Donovan already mentioned, wicked renditions of some awesome hits, and a totally BEAUTIFUL message that is long over due for our younger (and older) generation both gay and hetero alike:

When football quarterback Finn faces the rest of his football team and is confronted about why he would want to join the Glee club instead of hanging out with the rest of the football team and other jocks, he says:

“Don’t you get it man? We’re all losers. Everyone in this school. No. Everyone in this town. Out of all the kids that graduate maybe half will go to college, and two will leave the state to do it. I’m not afraid of being called a loser ’cause I can accpet that is what I am. But I am afraid of turning my back on something that actually made me happy for the first time in my sorry life.”

So what? are you quitting to join Homo Explosion?

No. I’m doing both. Cause you can’t win without me and neither can they!”

I think that is the total crux of the show, and I hope they keep that message loud and clear. I’ll be watching for this one in the fall for sure!

  • I really liked the pilot. You can see all the great directions this show could go. I have to say though it felt a bit rushed, but I guess that is the pilot’s curse. Also, the whole thing with the football player kind of reminded me too much of American Pie, especially because the actor playing Finn looks SO MUCH like Chris Klein – the football player turned glee clubber from American Pie.

I wrote a review for a publication last week and basically gushed and gushed about Glee –

“Glee is still the little musical-comedy-drama that could…bomb. As terrific as it is, it’s a risk. Why? Because there’s nothing else like it on TV. Because regular episodes won’t begin airing weekly until this fall. And because lots of folks may feel as I do, that Idol has pretty much ruined young-people-singing-passionately for me. But I was persuaded by Glee’s cagey little mind as well as its big, throbbing heart. I think you will be too.”

    Lookin’ forward to September!

It’s completely amazing. I have no idea why they would show us an entire episode and then tell us we have to wait months for more – those bastards.

I loved the pilot, though I agree there was A LOT of stuff going on (did he really have to sign up to coach them, decide to leave, and then decide to come back all in one episode?) But I adored how everyone against the idea was in the theatre the witness their Journey tribute at the end.

I am officially full of glee.

  • Mark

Watched the first full episode.. totally hilarious and highly recommended! Just enough eyecandy, too. mmm mmm!

  • I know right! Who is the woofy football sidekick?

  • Doooon’t stop… be-lieeeeevin’…!
